“Mom! We’ve got new shoes!”
This came from the three who had been romping down in the meadow. Curious, I looked around the corner – where in the world would they find new shoes in the meadow? That isn’t exactly Payless Shoe Source.
Three huge grins looked back at me as they sported mud to their ankles. So these were the new shoes, huh?

It appears that while they had been running and playing through the swampy meadow, Missy Megan had sunk into deep mud and she began crying.
Not knowing what else to do, the two boys decided they would help her spirits and so did the only thing they could think of.
They got in the mud with her.

When wise older brother Derek, who had been at home, questioned the wisdom of their actions, they cheerfully replied, “But it worked!”

Perhaps God wants to see us get down in the mud with him.
