A mom who stays home to care for her littles is not considered “successful” in today’s society. She does not have power point presentations to prepare for or plaques hanging on the wall with all her degrees.
Her clothes are not washed, pressed, and delivered by the local dry cleaners. Instead, they have baby barf, blueberry stains, and pen ink on them.
A schedule of exercising for an hour before leaving for work at 8 am isn’t compatible with her life. Instead, she is cooking a dozen eggs for little hungry tummies, getting a husband’s lunch packed and off to work, all while starting the laundry and trying to get her hair combed.
Ladies, we may not get credit and all the praise due us for the stinky diapers we change, the thousands of dishes we wash, the multiple lunches we pack, the many training sessions we carry out daily, or the clothes that appear so neatly folded in the drawers. Yet we quietly do all this and more for one reason.
We love it.
The hugs and slobbery kisses, the “I love you’s” that come our way, and the heart-to-heart talks we have with our families. This is only part of our reward. I’m sure you can think of more!
So the next time you feel discouraged and “unsuccessful”, do this little exercise. Write down every single thing you do during the day. You will be surprised at how much you accomplished! It is a boost to your self-esteem and a reminder that you are important, needed, and loved.
As a giveaway, I’m going to send a free homemade lip balm to one of you who can answer this correctly. You need to name off the things I did today, according to the photo collage above. Each picture stands for something I did, along with the help of my littles.
The first person to guess all the pictures correctly will win one Mint Lip Cooler by Nature’s Treasures. Nature’s Treasures happens to be my mother-in-law and I don’t consider myself biased when I say this is the best lip balm I’ve ever used!
Leave your answers below in the comments. Thank you!

Well I did change some diapers. 🙂 You have the same one wrong as Thankful above you. It’s a little hard to tell from the pic.
Kendra Graber says
I’ll give you both a clue. It’s the picture with the books. What else could it mean?
Nicole Sauer says
You went to the Library!!!! 🙂
Kendra Graber says
You’re right!!! I have your address, but to make sure it’s the right one, can you email it to me at kendra_graber@yahoo.com? Thanks. And I hope you’ll enjoy it — I’m sure dry California needs lip balm as bad as dry Idaho. 🙂

Thanks for the tip, Kendra =)
She is amazing…she picked the garden, took the children to the library (which they alllwaysss love!), did some laundry, gave plenty of hugs, whipped up a batch of cookies (don’t tell my children!) finished some pickles and canned green beans, then finished the day off with yet another batch of dishes!
Do you have a dishwasher?
Here is my challenge, Kendra, and one of the reasons I so enjoy your encouraging words. Sometimes I don’t enjoy it…the nitty gritty of housework, that is. I could spend all day teaching and hugging and baking and reading stories. But I am thankful for a house to clean, and frankly, it’s been long enough now that I can’t wait to clean later this week (that is as long as peaches don’t come off!) I’m thankful for dishes to wash, and healthy children that I need to “nudge” along with thier chores.
Blessings to you and much love!
Kendra Graber says
Beth, I can so relate! Many days I would rather have the reward without all the work. 🙂
And I did have a dishwasher, but it puked on me. So it’s back to the old-fashioned way!
