We have a guest post by Jane Martin from Mennonite Mom regarding an orphan their family was involved with. God has called us to help orphans, yet it’s heartbreaking when things don’t always work out the way we’d like them to.

James 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
What happens when good plans to help an orphan fails?
Do we give up and not obey the Scripture of James 1:27?
Our family encountered a 4 year journey of adopting a sweet boy, Toby from Guatemala. With the passing of time during the turbulent adoption, we moved our whole family to Guatemala in hopes to work the adoption through.
However, it didn’t work out, because the US closed its doors to Guatemala adoption and this whole case having fraudulent paperwork. In hopes of saving him from an orphanage we placed him in a Christian Guatemalan family. Toby loved them and called them mami and papi.
But at a court hearing the next year, Toby was torn from them, he was not even allowed to say good-bye to them, and placed with his alleged biological grandmother. A homestudy was never done on the grandmother. Her home was the 5th home that he lived in here on this earth, how traumatic for a child.
Nine months after he went to live with the grandmother, he died of pneumonia. Nine months was not even time to heal from changing homes. We had always wondered how he was doing, and we prayed for him too. But, to hear that he had actually died, was a shock to say the least.
The reassurance of Toby being with the Heavenly Father is comforting. What a beautiful Home in Heaven, no sickness or insecurities will be there. …. Are you ready to meet the Father face to face?
Our family’s desire is that Toby’s little earthly life not be in vain. Since the US closed its doors to Guatemala adoptions, due to the fraud, Guatemalan orphanages have filled up. There are many needs, it is almost staggering. The good news is that it only costs $4.00 to support an orphan for one MONTH! So we’ve started a fund in the name of “Toby’s Tears.”
ORI is a dependable and credible organization that delivers food to the orphans in Guatemala. In fact, my husband has went along several times to deliver to the orphans, the food gets right to the needs.
You can donate to Toby’s Tears here.

Four dollars A DAY (as the post says), or four dollars A MONTH (as the card states)???

Thanks for doing the post Kendra. It’s true that four dollars a month will feed one orphan for a WHOLE MONTH! Than does include some donated food, and then with your help of the four dollars, that child recieve the rest of his food for one month!
