I’m one of those early-to-decorate-for-Christmas kind of folks. We’re also the ones who are ready to take it down by Christmas Eve.
If you’re wondering exactly when I started decorating this year, you’ll have to keep wondering still. This is highly-classified information that may come out only in the midst of extreme torture. Or if you withhold my Christmas chocolates from me. I might even be willing to tell you my bank account number if that should happen.
Yes, my husband used to despair when he would see me digging through my Christmas music in the month of October. Over the years I’ve mellowed quite a bit…….I’d like to think I’ve grown up a smidge. Or it could have something to do with the fact that my cd player was donated to the dump. Either way, Christmas makes me feel like a child again.
We especially love to get out our nativity scene which is truly a masterpiece. There is none like it in Walmart or your Christianbook magazine. Ours is unique in that it is the survival of the fittest. Only those pieces of 2,3,4 nativity sets that have lived through five children and come out with heads still attached, the camel’s leg is still on, the angel’s wing isn’t completely shattered, and Jesus is still in his manger, have made it to our current scene.
Our one wise man had a really rough time of it last year. His poor head kept falling off and Daddy would superglue it again……and again……and again.
The children love to play and play with this scene that currently has two baby Jesus’ in their separate mangers, one Mary, and a Joseph that simply will not stand up. He keeps falling over. I told Lowell maybe this was from the shock of having a baby in a stable.
And into this unique mix of nativity characters you add an almost two year old ornery, little boy who keeps stashing the manger and baby Jesus into a little Christmas box on the windowsill. I’m pretty sure I’ll be digging under couches, in couch cushions, under coffeetables, and dumpster diving in my kitchen trashcan many times before this Christmas season is past to look for that missing piece that only Wyatt knows where it is. And since he currently can only say Mum, Daaayy, Teeelll, and yum, we are reduced to hand motions and grunts in regards to finding our lost camel or wise man. I’m just praying he forgets all about flushing them down the toilet, for that could spell disaster.
So as Thanksgiving is behind us, I am ready to move on to Christmas and remembering my Jesus not only as the Baby in the manger, but as the King who will someday return in triumph!

lol, that must be a one-of-a-kind nativity scene!!! That is neat that you let your children play with it 🙂 I hope I can find a Nativity Scene that I like and won’t mind too much that they play with. Have a fun December!!!
