This past weekend, we took the children and went camping at the Yaak River in Montana. It was our only time to go camping this summer — besides our annual church campout.
The campground is actually where the two rivers meet – the Yaak and the Kootenai. It is not in any of the pictures, but at the campground, you can see where the two waters combine and it becomes a scary-looking whirlpool!
The children had fun playing in the Yaak River since it was the lowest, safest – and also contained the warmest water!
Bikes were a great source of entertainment too.
But a bike, a rope, and Dallas’ little car was the biggest hit!
The little car had only half a steering wheel, but an exceptional (and goofy) driver.
Someone needed to shave . . .
For Saturday supper, we invited some lovely guests to eat grilled chicken with us. They also brought along dessert to cook in a dutch oven. So yummy! Someday I have hopes of owning a dutch oven and creating all kinds of goodies in it.
And it all came tumbling down . . .
This incredibly sweet couple agreed to be our camping buddies! They were a ball of fun and put up with our kiddos lack of manners while camping outdoors.
Let me explain.
Our kids – the ones who can look so angelic – can belch like you wouldn’t believe! So we have a rule of no burping in the house, only outside. Thus, it is a free-for-all when we go camping . . . no inhibitions whatsoever.
At least until Mom begins to feel suffocated with all the manhood getting flung around – the belching and farting contests, plus egos the size of Mount Everest.
Then it ends and we return to being civilized people once again.
“So whaddaya figure they are feeding us for lunch?”
Dirty faces can be cute . . . when they are on a two-year-old.
Sunday morning church service. Out in God’s chapel!
Thankfully, we didn’t get kicked out for such a smudgy face.

What fun! I remember the days of tent camping with our kids. When we’re together now as a family, those memories are what the kids talk about too, now that they’re grown.
Blessings,
Betsy

We have a small, old camper that pretty much provides a dry place – but we have tented in the past too. The kids LOVE camping!! And once I get past all the work it brings with it, I enjoy it also.

I had no idea you lived close enough to go camping there! Wow. One of my favorite campgrounds, which is saying a lot since I hate camping with a passion.

It has become one of our favorites, too!! I love the paved roads for bikes, the Kootenai for boys’ flyfishing, and the Yaak is great for tubing or swimming. Do you know how early in the week you must go to get the campsites on the side of the Yaak river? I’ve got two or more favorites that I’d love to snag next summer, but I’m afraid we’d have to go on Thursday to get them.

Looks like fun. Kendra, I have been looking for a book review you did on “Jesus Calling”. At least I THINK you did one. Can you help me find it? Thank you!
