If you read our previous post, you will remember we have scarlet fever here at this house. Yesterday, the second munchkin showed up with it and I’m just waiting for the third now. It’s rather like the process of elimination – 2 down, 3 to go. For those of you who are local, I will give you this one piece of advice. Don’t mess around with scarlet fever. I don’t know if all strains are like this one, but this seems to hit hard and fast. Yesterday Logan was fine at noon, but by 2:00 he had spiked a fever, was vomiting, and very lethargic. By 4:30 he had his first dose of antibiotics. When he woke up this morning, he felt better but now has the scarlet fever rash. This is not meant to scare you, just to give you a “heads up.” I will really feel bad if the whole school comes down with this, but quite honestly this is the last thing that I thought Terrel had. To me, scarlet fever was something from the 18th century, not the 21st century! Having said that, just get an antibiotic quickly and you should be fine.
It is a great temptation to complain when I am tending sick children and not allowed to sleep much before 1:00am. But I woke up this morning and saw the story on Fox News (internet, sorry we don’t have TV) about the little baby that was snatched from her crib in the night. And my grumpy, whiny heart was convicted at how ungrateful a mom I am. At least my children were safe in my house when I woke up!
Or when I’m tempted to feel sorry for myself because of sicknesses that upset my schedule and require every ounce of patience I possess, I have to think of precious Benton and his family who would probably give anything just to have a mild case of scarlet fever instead of cancer. Oh God, forgive me when I whine because I think my problems are so big.
It’s better to save the breath I would have spent complaining and use it instead to pray for someone who has needs much bigger than mine.
And since we had to stay home from church, the children were playing in their space shuttle. Hence, church in a box. I know Jesus said to go into our closet to pray, but I’m wondering if a cardboard box would be okay, too.
