Our little greenhouse project is perking right along. Most days that I need to transplant seedlings or plant seeds, I am able to escape to my paradise by myself! However, once in a while I have a little helper or two.
This is my potting shelf. It stands at just the right height for short me. However, I am realizing that I now need this top shelf to put more trays of seedlings on. I will have to get my rearranging skills out.
On this day, I was planting seeds for these plants:
- Basil
- Cilantro
- Morning Glories
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
It was a splendid day! Although I promptly forgot and left my camera in there to bake in the heat. Oops.
Osteospermum. I have never tried this flower before, so it is a new one this year. After I took this picture, I then transplanted these seedlings (plus one more container) into bigger plugs . . . and ended up with somewhere around 40 plants.
I have started two different kinds of petunias – Easy Wave Flag Mix and a Double Petunia Mix. These petunias were so fun to transplant. Especially since I ended up with 81 of these sweet babies!!
My marigolds were among the first I started this spring and look very lovely to this Northern mama. We have 57 marigolds perking quite nicely.
Can you tell I like counting my fun stuff?
I never did start alyssum like I did the other plants – where I planted seeds together in milk containers. These alyssum came from Harris Seed as a multi-seed pellet. So I simply planted one pellet per plug in this flat. They came up beautifully!
This isn’t a good picture of the geraniums. The sunlight is pretty bright in the greenhouse and I didn’t take the time to adjust my camera setting. But they are also coming up superbly! 36 of these seedlings
It’s starting to get full. And I love going out to my greenhouse and watching little miracles happen every week! Megan and Wyatt each have a plant out there that they are trying to either get growing or keep alive. I hope to instill the love of gardening within my own children someday . . . and this is a good place to start.
Fine Gardening Magazine
I have recently discontinued my Taste of Home magazine subscription – now that summer is coming. In summer, I lose the desire to cook. In fact, I even warned my kids that they will be living on grilled chicken, stirfries, watermelon, popsicles and ice cream cones. Or something along those lines! Easy. Simple. Fresh.
Yeah, I know you probably wouldn’t call popsicles fresh . . .
So to give myself a magazine to read on my porch this summer, I opted for Fine Gardening Magazine. And I love it!! I would recommend this magazine to those of you who love to garden, get potting ideas, landscape and design ideas, or just dream about your own yard and garden someday.
All you need is a porch swing and a glass of iced tea to go with it.
Dividing Hostas
I have been wanting to find some hostas to plant in a couple places and so went online to find out when to divide them. This is an excellent article for those of you who are interested!

I have to be honest and say I might be “green with envy”… but in a good way of course… just loving all the lovely green heads you have coming up! So, I do need a greenhouse like yours! It is amazing what you can start from seed when you have a greenhouse right! I must convince my husband of this… lol! It must be very exciting to have so many fun things in your greenhouse ready to plant! And your little helper was pretty special… watch out for that water though, I can just see a splash or two coming your way 🙂

He is usually pretty good with his little water bottle! But, yes, I LOVE having a greenhouse. 🙂
