The whisper came from shattered hearts –
Give us men who will stand true to the vows they took so many years ago. Vows to love, honor, and cherish. Through adversity and prosperity. When we’re feeling happy, and when we’re feeling sad.
Men who will walk in the door every evening. Who are there when the sun rises . . . . and when it sets. Faithful every hour of every day.
And we will give you our undying loyalty.
The cry comes from broken lives –
Give us men who flee at the first sign of temptation and who guard the doors of their souls from the onslaught of the enemy. Who know how human they are . . . . yet how able their God is.
Men who will make themselves accountable to another – in order to keep them faithful. Who would go to the ends of the earth to remain the men we know them to be.
Men who do it because they love us.
And we will give you our utmost respect.
The plea escapes the troubled soul –
Give us men who would die for us. For our marriages, for our children, for our churches, and for our lives. Die to self and die to sin.
Men who surround our homes and families to protect them from the world, its influences, and ultimately – the enemy. Who strive mightily to keep our home a place where love abounds and God is lifted up.
And we will stand beside you to the bitter end.
The little ones softly weep as tears stain their soft cheeks –
Give us fathers who will hold us in the night when it seems so dark and life looks scary. Who will be there in the morning when the light shines in the window. And who will love us more than life itself.
Fathers who fight like warriors of old to protect the souls of their children. Who would go to battle with the demons that threaten to tear our homes apart. Who will love Mommy until she takes her last breath . . . and beyond.
Fathers who are strong enough to make tough decisions for us, yet gentle enough to kiss away the tears.
Fathers worthy of a child’s admiration, yet humble enough to say “I’m sorry.”
And we will give you our trusting little hearts.
The voices of your wife and five little children who love you – and who are proud to be with such a man –
Thank you for being there when the sun has set. And when it rises once again.
For being willing to give up so many things the tantalizing world has to offer – in order to remain faithful to us and to our Lord.
Thank you for being a man our children can proudly say “That’s my dad!”
For bending your knee to war with demons who threaten our little family and all it holds dear.
Thank you for saying those vows 13 years ago – and meaning them still today.
and all the honor due a godly man such as you. We love you, Lowell.
