Reader question:
This question is from my sister who is the mother of six young children. They’ve gone through so many cases of strep throat and it still keeps coming back. The doctor prescribes different antibiotics and it clears it up for a time, but then comes back.
One of her daughters was diagnosed with strep throat 5 times in six months! What the crazy thing is is that they had never gotten it until just last spring.
My sis and I have discussed several natural methods to try, such as echinacea tincture, gargling peroxide, and colloidal silver.
We were hoping some of you would have some advice for us. What do you usually do when your children contract strep throat? Is it natural and does it work? What can she do to keep it from coming back?
They seem to be getting reinfected from someone or something. And we’d love ideas on this, too!

Good morning! I really enjoy your blog and have been a “lurker” for some time. God bless you for your efforts!
I would guess that if if is reoccurring so frequently, the bacteria is in something they are consuming. My family, when I was growing up, had reoccurrent strep throat for several years. Finally the doctor insisted that we stop drinking raw milk for a time to see if that could possibly be the cause. VOILA! No more strep throat!!! Or it can reoccur with something so simple as brushing your teeth with the same toothbrush that you used when you were sick – finish the antibiotics, brush your teeth and place the same germs back in your mouth and it flares up again. I personally would not try treating a positive strep throat cultured diagnosis with anything but antibiotice – there are many very serious complications that can occur with untreated strep. (google it for further details.)
Best wishes! Jenn

Thank you! I’m passing on any info I can to her. She said she’s already been pitching toothbrushes for the past six months. 🙂 I’m curious why raw milk caused it – can it carry the strep bacteria?

Yes. My mom bought a home pasteurizer (?spelling -that is one weird word!) and that was the last episode of strep throat in years. So thereafter we drank milk from our cows, but it was pausterized. My older sister had more episodes of strep tahn any of the rest of us. Not sure if she was just more susceptible?

My son has gotten strep a few times; we’ve always just treated it with antibiotics. Our pediatrician said that if a child keeps getting strep, their tonsils possibly need removed. Something about the virus being “stored” in the tonsils. I’m not a medical expert; this is just what I’ve heard.

My sis was talking about that book and how she wanted to get it. I’ve never heard of olive leaf extract, but I’ll pass it on to her. Thank you!!

Rachel’s book is genius.
On a different note: I grew up with a family of kids that Always had strep. I mean year in and year out. Finally the Dr said there is a problem!! NO one else got it – family, friends school kids, no one. After a few tests, they discovered their well was contaminated. They stopped using that water and they never! had strep again.

Wow! Can they get it from mold? My sis’ family did move into an older house that possibly has mold in the basement.
