I was ready to cry.
I’d sprayed and washed, resprayed and rewashed, and reresprayed and rerewashed those jeans. Ok, don’t look at me cross-eyed. I know those aren’t real words. But I was frustrated big time.
The first time Lowell pulled his jeans out of the drawer in the morning and said “There are some spots here”, I took it calmly. No problem, I’ll wash them again. I’d spray them with Greased Lighting, wash them, and pronto – good as new.
Until the next time he pulled them out. “The spots are still here.”
Now I began to get a little irritated. I absolutely despise doing my work twice. But three times is ridiculous!
So I brought out two different laundry stain removers and applied them. Rewashed those crazy jeans. Spots were still there.
I need to insert here that I exercised great self-control and did not throw them at his head. I promise.
But by now I’m nearing psycho-land and all I can see is my failure in those jeans. My husband should be glad I didn’t take the scissors, cut out the spots, and hand them back. “Now they are gone, honey! Any others you’d like me to work on?”
It was time to declare war. Those spots had now become my arch nemesis. And one of us was going down.
Out came the Oxiclean and I soaked and soaked and soaked them. Soaked them too long, actually. I pulled them out and realized the water had turned blue and the jeans had turned a, um, lighter blue.
Hubby pulled the pants out of the drawer, held them in front of me, and said, “The spots are still there.”
Ok, that was it. I had reached the end of my patience and my sanity. The spots had won. But I refused to cry . . .
Lowell could see how traumatic an experience it was getting to be and so stepped in. “Let me find a cleaner that will work.” And he did. Go him.
It pretty much took him about 20 minutes of Google time to find this awesome cleaner – original recipe here.
I used it and it worked!! So now, out of my defeat, I will share it with you. Perhaps it will save you some tears . . .
Love My Laundry Stain Remover
Blue Dawn dish soap
Mix these at this ratio = 1:2 One part Dawn, two parts peroxide. I mix up 1 cup blue Dawn and 2 cups hydrogen peroxide.
Store it in a dark bottle to preserve the peroxide.
Spray it liberally on your laundry stains. Scrub it in and let sit 10 minutes. Wash as normal.
