Thursday
On our trips back to Indiana, we try to split our time between both sides of our families. When you consider that both sets of parents live within a few miles of each other, not to mention siblings and grandparents . . . it can be rough to squeeze all that into six or seven days!
Thursday morning saw us over at my folks’ place with my side of the family. The children’s project of the day was to attack Grandpa’s huge pile of dirt!
My lovely, sweet sister, Krista, and her youngest – she also has six with one set of twins!
While the children were sliding down the dirt pile, we ladies were watching the activity going on the field nearby. I thought that was one interesting combine!
My wonderful mother and her beautiful garden! I was jealous of their sweet corn since mine was only about 6 inches tall before we left Idaho.
The children made a huge discovery in Grandpa’s dirt! A nest of baby mice. Shudder.
Yes, that is my daughter holding that mouse!!! She did not get that gene from me.
At. All.
And, yes, that’s my son holding that baby mouse. Or maybe it’s Lowell’s son . . . 🙂
I can’t hardly bring myself to even put this picture up on the blog. But I will do it because it might be decades before we see something like this again! Besides, my children are having fun reading this little series on the blog and remembering all the good times we had!
Once the mice attraction wore off (for the older ones), they got out Grandma’s badminton set.
Ever the budding actor . . . Terrel hits the ground. Again.
My wonderful father and Mr. Fat Squishy! I miss my folks sometimes terribly when I think of the 2,000 miles between us.
That is my oldest brother, Marc, sitting on the left. Next to him is my father, Mike Wray, and then my sister’s husband, Nelson. And lastly, you already know the Man of the Shoe!
These three are like three peas in a pod! They were all born within six weeks of each other. Kendall, the one in the red (and my sister Coryna’s boy), was born first. Our Logan (stripe shirt) came six weeks after him. Then Andrew, my brother Marc’s boy, (green shirt) came six weeks after Logan!
Every time we go back east, we try to take a picture of these three to see the difference from year to year. Cousins are so much fun!
Food! Finally.
These two are the littlest tykes on my family’s side. There is Mr. Fat Squishy, of course – aka, Dallas. And the little girlie he’s eating supper with is my sister Coryna’s baby. These two are about a month apart in age.
Too much fun in the dirt pile = dirty hair, dirty ears, dirty face, dirty everything.
Dirty everything = a mama who hauls you into the bathtub!
Friday
On Friday, July Fourth, we had lunch at Nelson and Krista’s house. This is my Aunt Karen and my Grandma Gladys! Grandma has recently had a hip replacement and is still feeling kind of rough.
Ryan loves when his Idaho cousins come to play rough-and-tumble!
I love my sister’s flowers!
Megan and cousin Renita! This is another one of my sister, Coryna’s children.
Everyone liked Nelson since he was the one that grilled our hamburgers!
On the right is my Uncle Pat, brother to the my dad sitting there.
Waiting for those yummy hamburgers. We must be nearing the end of the trip – and our sanity – judging by the expression on my face! (Lowell would say “If you do that too much, your face might stay like that!”
Two sweeties!!
I will bore you once again with another picture of my Mr. Fat Squishy. But, seriously, those cheeks and eyes just get me every time!
Yet another badminton game.
My brother, Marc, and his wife, Jenny, looking at Krista’s garden. I had forgotten how things grow in Indiana – with no effort! All you have to do is put it in a little soil and, bingo, you have a crop!
Of course, I suppose the weeds grow, too.
Soon after this picture it was time to say our final good-byes and head out. I will have one more post to this series and then we are home-free! Thanks for hanging in there with me. I almost quit halfway through when I realized how long this was going to take.
Until then . . .
