An easy way to keep your home cleaned with minimal effort.
Summer is finally coming to northern Idaho! To say we are excited is a gross understatement. It seems like this winter and spring have been long. This is a good incentive for us to actually get outside when it is beautiful and 75 degrees. It also means that this is the time of year when I begin to think of ways to move everyone outside – eating, living, playing.
It is also when I begin to get an aversion to all things domestic. Well, almost all. I still like to make my sourdough bread.
Once I have my spring cleaning done and windows washed inside and out . . . then it seems winter has truly come to an end. And I have been let loose from the ties that hold me to my little home – and can fly out to my garden, greenhouse, and flowers! It’s crazy, but it’s like my spirit takes a big, deep breath and I look forward to four or five months of just having fun in the dirt, lakes, and mountains.
Can you tell we love Idaho summers? They are wonderful. And that is understated as well. I will do my best to get some pictures up for you soon. Some green grass pictures.
Clean a Little Each Day
So to help myself not be tied down to my home for full days this summer, I am coming up with a weekly schedule. Now this is not my complete idea. Nope. Pinterest helped me out a bit!
But with my children getting out of school in a few weeks, I am going to need a chore list for them to also help me with. The big boys plan to work on a construction crew this summer with their awesome dad, so it might be me, my sweet daughter, and the two littles who do the bulk of this list. But that’s okay . . . it’s only a little bit of work each day.
One of my friends once told me she divided her cleaning up to do a job each day through the week. That way you don’t have one whole day you must be cleaning. I am going to give that a try this summer! Perhaps it will also keep the house cleaned better. A mama can always hope.

You will notice I did not put anything for Saturday or Sunday. This was partly because I was running out of room on my paper! And also because I don’t like leaving cleaning for Saturday. Usually this day is used up doing something outside with the whole family or preparing for company on Sunday. I’m not going to put a job there when I’d rather be jumping in a mountain lake or hiking to the waterfalls. That is when cleaning can wait . . . or get done the day before.
Also, I added daily jobs that even the children can do. This is to keep the house relatively in order and to provide something for “bored” children to work on.
Last tip: Make sure you enjoy your summer to the fullest! Dirty dishes can wait, but our precious children are only with us for a few years.
