School is almost over!
I know moms probably shouldn’t be even more excited than the children are, but sometimes you can’t help yourself. I’m looking forward to having all my kiddos home for 3 months with no school lunches to think about or trips down the mountain every morning at 8 am.
This post may not interest you at all since it’s pretty personal and relative to mostly our life. But I wanted to make a list of all the goals I have for the summer.
With the severe case of “pregnancy brain” that I have at the moment, lists are a lifeline to me. Sticky notes, torn up paper with scribbles on them, shopping lists . . . these are the things that save my hide right now. I can’t seem to remember much past yesterday while there’s another bun in the oven!
So this is my list of “to-do’s” that I’d like to get achieved before September:
- Have a baby. This is the ultimate goal of the summer! However, I know it will happen whether I put it on my list or not. Babies don’t adhere to checklists very well.
- Train my three oldest to do the laundry from beginning to end. The children already gather the laundry and do 90% of the folding. But this goal is one I intend to see through. I really want to show them how to sort the clothes, pre-stain them, and start the washing machine and dryer. I tell my boys that someday they will either be bachelors (and I’m not doing wash for old bachelors who could very well do it themselves) or their wives might be having a baby and need help getting the wash done! Their grimaces tell me exactly what they think of that . . .
- Teach little Miss Megan to ride her bike – without training wheels. This is one that should have been achieved last summer, but she didn’t show great interest in learning. We don’t have a place to ride bike, except for the road. And that gets busier during the summer with campers and motorhomes headed up to camp on the river. It’s not the ideal place to have children ride bikes and they all have strict instructions on how far they can go, etc.
- The four oldest children will learn to make summer lunches. I’ve told them that they are each going to choose a yummy lunch they especially like and I will teach them how to make it. Then they will each get one day of the week where they have to make their lunch for all of us! This is my idea of getting out of cooking lunches . . . especially once Baby Joey arrives.
- Stick with the training on all of the children, but especially the younger ones. With having such bad morning sickness this pregnancy, I’ve let some things slide in regards to acceptable behavior. Now that I’m feeling much better and before Baby arrives, I must discipline myself to not give in on things I have been. I honestly don’t like this “to-do” since it usually takes more disciplining of Mama than it does of the child. But I know it’s something I need to do for the sake of the little one, who left to his own devices will someday take him down the wrong road.
- Have fun with our little family! Summertime holds so many possibilities and sometimes we “checklist people” can get way too caught up in our “to-do’s” that we forget to have fun. Some days I will need to throw my list out the window and go jeeping with my husband, shoot bb guns with my boys, watch the kids go swimming, pack a picnic for Sunday lunch, or enjoy an ice cream cone with my precious blessings!
And now that I have put it down on “digital paper” – I will be coming back to this post in September to see how many of these items I got accomplished.
Nice thing is about unaccomplished items . . . there is always next summer!
