Our little girl has a unique morning look to her, considering her very curly hair. Over the years we have received quite a few comments concerning her curls. And while they are cute, folks don’t realize how much pain a curly-haired person must put themselves through to come out of the bathroom looking presentable. Or in this case, how much pain their mama must put them through. Sometimes she makes it sound as though she’s running the gauntlet with all the yelps and moans emitting from our bathroom.
Sometimes we’ll get to church and someone will comment on how nice her hair looks today. And then I have a very wicked thought. Someday I think it’d be fun to take her to church looking just like she does when she wakes up! I wonder what folks would say then.
Don’t get me wrong, I love her curly hair! It’s just been a real trial-and-error to find a way to get the best look with the least amount of pain involved. Here are a few pictures to show you the steps we go through every school morning so that she doesn’t go to school and scare her first-grade teacher.
She is busy reading her reader while we take the first few snapshots. This girl went to bed with that reader and woke up reading it. She’s not a fast reader, but I it warms my heart to hear her and to know she’s developing a love for reading.
Do you notice the pained expression on her face? Poor thing, that is how her morning begins. And if Mom is in a really big hurry, it can be worse!
We have to spray it with lots of water before combing it out, then with mousse to help keep the curls in the braid for the day.
Next we do our best to french braid it, then spray it with mousse one more time.
After we’re done, my little girlie is ready to grab her schoolbooks and lunchbox and head out the door with Daddy!
Then Mommy gets to sip her coffee real slow and reminisce how that this little girl used to have just fuzz on her head. When I was pregnant with her, Lowell ordered a blonde, blue-eyed, curly-haired girl……and he got exactly that. But for some odd reason, he leaves the curl management to me.
Thanks for taking a peek into our morning transformation! And don’t forget to enter our giveaway for 7 Gourmet Popcorns from Sharon’s Country Store. Have a blessed day!
