This April has been warm with little rain. Warm enough we were able to till up the gardens, plant potatoes, onions and garlic, and even begin to weed the strawberries.
Here we have the potatoes planted in the garden down the road at our neighbor, Charles Schrock’s, house. He lets us use part of his garden for our corn, beans and potatoes – so you will find the photos don’t match the rest of what’s around here at the Shoe! I might even try some tomatoes there this year.
My strawberries need weeded badly. I tried weeding, but it was so dry the weed roots were not coming up with the rest of the weed. Might have to water the garden before weeding the rest.
You can see they have taken off – I even found a couple blooms!!
Oh, my raspberry plants hold such promise! We all love to go out in the evening and pick fresh raspberries for snack after supper. Raspberries grow so easily and are such great fun for kids.
The mint tea is making itself known among the weeds. Mmmm, I can almost taste the iced garden tea we will have soon!
This is my main garden. I have tilled it and planted my onions and garlic here. The kids have had an awesome time playing in the freshly-tilled dirt, making a volcano and several holes big enough to sit a little body down in – plus they have been practicing their long jump relay in here that they will compete in at the school picnic next month!
Have any of you ladies planted garden yet?
