It is time to celebrate!
The canner is put away. The dehydrator is washed and stored. All the fruit, vegetables, sauces, and fillings are on their shelves.
I love that feeling of accomplishment and relief! It’s fun to get it all out, yes. . . but it’s just as fun to put it away.
We finished up the tomatoes I had thrown into the freezer as they ripened over the summer. Those were made into pizza/pasta sauce and tomato juice the other week!
All you eastern folks will look at that picture and quickly dismiss it. However, if you live in northern Idaho, you will know how sweet that picture is! (not to boast of course) But growing tomatoes out here is like pulling teeth. It takes lots of work, watering, and trimming to get these babies edible. And not to mention covering them for that first frost so they can actually ripen up yet!
But they are SO WORTH IT. Amen.
Now that summer and gardening days are over, my “cooking bug” begins to itch really bad! It’s time to try some new recipes. And I’ll share with you the ones we tried, liked, and also those that got a hearty thumbs down.

To kick it off, we tried Autumn Apple Torte for Sunday dinner dessert. It’s a Taste of Home recipe and got a unanimous thumbs up!
These are the remains after we attacked it on Sunday. Delicious! And made with our own home-grown apples. It doesn’t look as pretty as their picture, but I’ll bet it tasted just as good. We did, however, leave the almonds off the top. My kiddos aren’t too cracked about nuts in their desserts.
Only one article this week, but I found it interesting and intend to peruse this site a little more this winter.
A Message From the Grave For the New Kind of Mennonites
Pictures from the last couple weeks
Mr. Fat Squishy was all excited to help with the bedroom fall cleaning! I rather think his big brothers thought he was annoying since they kept bringing him back downstairs. To which he would retaliate by going right back up.
Looks like he also lost his britches on one of the trips either up or down.
Somebody was having a little “static” fun with Mr. Fat Squishy’s long hair!
Daddy would say it just proves his point that there is way too much hair on that little guy’s head.
But Mommy still isn’t brave enough to take the scissors and do a “big boy” hair cut. Not to her little baby.
Believe me when I tell you that I know what I’m talking about! 🙂 After four other boys, I have found out this little, horrible, heartwrenching secret.
That very first haircut takes a chubby baby and grows him into a little man . . . within minutes.
And I’m not going there yet. Getting closer, but still not there.
Warning to all: if you come to our home, please be warned to stick a toe around all corners before actually advancing. If not, you just might get flattened.
This is what my living room floor looks like the majority of the time.
And don’t tell them . . . but I secretly love it!
Until, of course, I find myself with the wind knocked out of me.
Little Bit tidbit:
While starting a load of laundry, 4 year old Wyatt runs up and offers to help by excitedly volunteering, “I’ll get your sugar for you!” In other words, the laundry soap. 😉
Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!

As the mom of 4 boys I know too well that sadness of a first haircut! No worries about my 8 month old needing one anytime soon!

I’ll have to tell Lowell I’m not the only mom to think this!

I’ll share with you what cured me of delayed haircuts on little boys. Gushing mother’s in grocery stores; “Oh she’s cute! What’s her name?”
“Ahh…her? She? He’s a boy; name’s…”
No matter that my little 4month old was decked out in blue and looking as boyish as ever!! So, yep, that one got a haircut at 4 1/2 months. No more little locks hanging over the ears, or down the neck or into the eyes (very much like Mr. Fat Squishy now). Thankfully my other sons didn’t have such locks of hair and remained my ‘babies’ a little longer. I’m eying my 13 month old…it won’t be long now. 🙁

Um, yep. That would probably cure me too!! 😉 Don’t you get the feeling some people might possibly be color blind? You’d think some things would be obvious . . . but hey, I’ll probably do it to someone else tomorrow!!

Just had to let you know that the Autumn Apple Torte got rave reviews at our house too! I was actually a little surprised at how much the children loved it! I had pecans to put on top instead of almonds. A Keeper for fall-time apples! 🙂

Oh great! We are eating the Chocolate Mousse Cake right now and it’s getting about a 4 star. 🙂 Very good but oh so rich.
