. . . . a good Sunday.
The Lord knew I needed forced out of my pity party this morning because at 8:15am, my ears heard this: “Hon, we’re hostess today!”
I had been just about in tears thinking about my last couple weeks and it was as if suddenly the Lord took hold of me and said, “Put your mind on others, and your heart will heal.” So that is what I did.
I did the panic thing standing in front of the freezer and trying to come up with a meal to serve for Sunday lunch.
For those of you who wonder what I’m even talking about, our church takes turns with a family being “hostess” every Sunday so that visitors can be invited to someone’s home for a Sunday dinner. And today was my day. However, I forgot about it. I spent a blissful Saturday in complete ignorance that on Sunday I would be serving company.
But my sight landed on frozen red raspberries which were quickly whipped into a cobbler and I fell in love all over again with “already fried elk hamburger in plastic baggies”. This is a trick I was taught by my big sister Coryna, and I don’t want to be caught without it again. When we were putting all of our elk meat in the freezer, I also fried some of the hamburger up and froze it. That way you just grab a bag and put it into a casserole. Such as wet burritos like I did today!
Add to that home-canned peaches, home-canned green beans, and ice cream. It was simple, but it was good! I had to think that if being a hostess is more about the spirit than about the food and home, then this meal was going to need lots of spirit.
Funny thing is, as the day went on, the better my heart began to feel. I hadn’t counted on how my own company can bless my heart so much. Being with other believers was what I needed and God knew that. And if they read this – just want to say thank you.
So, yes . . . . . this has been a good Sunday. How was yours?

Often I like spur of the minute company the best (of course we no longer have “littles” at home). How many folks did you have!
