When it’s beautiful outside, sometimes we pack the children up and head out for a hike. However, as close as the mountains are, we don’t do it often enough!
This is the beginning of the trail to Myrtle Creek Falls.
Before you get too far on the trail, you cross the creek. The bridge is one that allows you to see through the bridge to the creek below – as you’re walking across. This made the children a little nervous!
The hike is a pleasant, short one and we arrived before getting too hot and sweaty!
Myrtle Creek Falls
God made all things good!
However, we didn’t stop at the falls. Someone had told us of a trail that takes you up above the falls. And so we decided to do it! Here is where the camera went in the backpack because it got pretty steep and we needed all hands on deck to keep children (and Mom) from sliding down the mountain.
Once we got above the falls, we sat down beside the creek and little kids do the first thing that comes to mind.
Throw rocks in the water, what else!
Myrtle Creek as it heads towards the falls.
Somebody’s rock made a big splash!
Grabbing the camera, I tried taking a quick picture of Wyatt’s cute, dirty face.
He caught on, however, and started his lick-and-wipe routine! Which only made it worse . . . and more cute.
I love the mossy banks beside a rushing mountain creek!
On the way back down to the falls.
There’s the valley behind us!
Daddy doing one of his many safety talks! And if you know him, there was quite a bit of humor involved.
Doesn’t this remind you of the scene in Sound of Music where the Von Trapp family is hiking up and over the Swiss Alps? I felt sort of like Maria right here . . . only with half the clan!
Mr. Fat Squishy had the best seat in the house . . . and loved every minute!
Wildflowers and dirty faces.
We love them both.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.

What a nice family outing ! And I hear you about needing all hands for some parts of mountain climbing. We climbed Pinnacle Mtn. in Arkansas a couple of weeks ago and I was amazed at how steep it was. Then we had to come down, which was down right scary for this old lady ! I’m so glad you got to do this with your children. It’s times like these that they will remember !

Oh wow, this looks like a wonderful day outing! Your pictures are just precious of everyone in your family, and of the beautiful creek! I just love the Kootenai Valley, and the mountains there, their purple hues are just incredible! I am enjoying peeking around your blog! I think we live in one of the most glorious places on earth! 🙂
