Summers are the times when our little family loves to get out and enjoy the mountains. This summer, you will get to enjoy the great outdoors with us! On our little outings, we will try to take the camera along and share God’s beautiful country with you in a series we will call “This Land of Ours”.
Going out into God’s great creation, viewing the majestic mountains, sitting by a roaring waterfall, or standing on the edge of a cliff. These all do one thing . . .
They confirm our belief in a Supreme Creator!
So come join us as we take you mushroom hunting – as our little family enjoyed it Sunday afternoon.
This is how we explore the mountains — in Tigger, our orange mail-route Jeep!
Wild strawberries were all over the mountain! They will be fun to pick later on, but they are usually so tiny that it takes 5 to equal a regular strawberry.
Everybody found mushrooms that day and we went home with quite a pile!
The mountains are full of treasures!
Morel mushrooms can be hard to spot when there is so much brush and pine needles on the ground.
When we all pile in Daddy’s Jeep, we never know where we will end up. That is half of the fun!
Yes, Wyatt even found some mushrooms. He was right proud of himself!
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.

Looking forward to exploring your mountains with you! We had been hoping to make a trip to the west coast this summer, but it’s on hold. So, I can maybe enjoy the mountains through your pictures! I’m curious, how do you prepare morel mushrooms?
Living in the Shoe says
This is how my husband does it! I think they taste better when he fries them. 🙂 http://livingintheshoe.com/cookin-fungi/

Sounds yummy!

Would love to do this. How do you know what mushrooms are edible?
Living in the Shoe says
It takes some practice and time spent hunting with someone who knows. Lowell grew up hunting mushrooms and so he knows by memory. However, we do have a plant book which lists what mushrooms are poisonous or edible. It’d be very good to have something like that if you’ve never searched for mushrooms before!

Cut in half, rinse thoroughly, drain well, shake in flour, & fry in butter….they are out of this world in flavor!

I’ll second that!!

Kendra,
This looks so great. I have never gone mushroom hunting. What state do you live in. I wonder if I can find them in Colorado, which is where I live. That would be so fun. Have a great day.

We live in Idaho! Someone else was wondering about Colorado and I truly don’t know. It might be worth looking, though. 🙂
