Grocery store. Library. Church. Grocery store. Library. Church.
After a routine like this for our outings since Baby Dallas arrived, I was ready to see something besides civilization. I needed to plant my feet upon some granite, gaze into pristine lakes, and listen to the wind in the evergreens while standing on the top of the world. Or so it seems way up there at Roman Nose Lake.
So I begged Lowell to take us on a picnic. Just our little family so that we would not ruin anyone else’s day if the whole plan went kerpoof! You always leave open a disclaimer like this when doing anything out of the ordinary with a newborn.
But school is coming up in a few short weeks, with hunting season hard on its heels, and I knew that my chances of getting out into the wild would be gone until next spring. So we packed up a picnic and headed into the mountains.
I know some of you are probably thinking “but she already lives in the mountains”! How can you go to the mountains when you’re already there?
Believe me, you can. There are mountains. And then there are MOUNTAINS.
The pictures will show you what I mean. To get to this pristine lake, you must drive about an hour – going up, up, and up.
It was a beautiful, sunny day that didn’t go quite kerpoof . . . but was perfect enough that I got my fill of evergreens, granite, and bright blue skies that must surely reach to heaven’s throne.
Fishin’ with Dad.
Life couldn’t be better for these little guys.
Miss Megan helped me babysit Dallas while the guys all fished. She is getting to be such a good helper. I told Lowell that I’m going to make her into a really good mama someday!

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” Psalm 121:1
There has to be a fish in here somewhere . . .
Dad’s littlest helper.
One distinct trademark of mountain lakes and creeks is their clear waters. So pretty and so cold, as Terrel found out!
Dallas and I walked and walked and walked. It was really windy up there and he didn’t like it much, but we were still able to enjoy the day!
One of the boys lost part of their fishing gear when it got caught on a log. So Dad said that whoever was brave enough to swim out in that cold mountain water could have it. Terrel was the brave one!

I know exactly how you feel we lived for 4 years at the foot of Glacier Park, and every chance we got we went to the mountains. I so miss that now, we live now in South Carolina and what they call mountains are beautiful but do not compare to the Rockies. God bless

Forgot to mention do you see the face in the lake it is in the 6th picture from the end?. I always try to find the face in nature, some how I feel the Lord puts them there for us to find.
