As most of you know, Lowell is a postal carrier. His route goes all the way up to the Canadian border and then back down the west side of the Kootenai Valley. At the border is a mercantile that also serves as a shipping depot for Canadian customers. They get countless packages through the United States Postal Service and it is Lowell’s responsibility to deliver their packages to them.
However, many times there are too many packages to fit into Lowell’s Jeep; so I will sometimes take the extra packages up to the border for him. This helps him save time so that he doesn’t have to make the extra run at the end of his workday, and can then get home to be with us at his normal time. Currently, I only run it about once a week, if that. Around Christmastime (when all the packages went beserck) it was almost four times a week.
The scenic drive up to the border and back again is very beautiful. Especially in the springtime! I’ve tried taking pictures for you all, but it’s a mite difficult to do when you’re also supposed to be driving. Add into that the demands of five children who somehow seem to be hungry the second you hit the road or else they can’t decide on which song to listen to on the cd. It can get interesting, to say the least!
But for what it’s worth, here is this Land of Ours
. . . to Canada and Back!
I love the mountains! They’re quiet, peaceful, and remind me that my God is bigger than anything I will ever face.
Logan and Wyatt were my winter Canadian trip buddies this year, since the older kids were in school. They went so many times that Logan became an expert at knowing when we had almost reached the border. There was a certain mountain he always looked for, and once he spied it, he knew we were just about there. In this picture, the border is right around the curve.
Finally at the border!
Someone is getting the hops fields ready.
Heading back home!
For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

What beautiful scenery you have to view as you deliver packages to help out your husband, Kendra! The pictures you posted are breathtaking! Sometimes I wonder what we are doing here in the east…but when I look into the faces of our children, and our grandchildren, and our elderly parents, then I know why we stay here! Love exceeds beauty….:)

So true, Darlene! And sometimes I wonder what I’ll do if my children decide to move back east. 😉

Thanks for the “trip”. We’ve talked about making that trip up to see Dwight’s sister & family in Saskatchewan, but so far it is just “talk”.

Then you will most definitely need to stop in Bonners Ferry on your way, right? 🙂

Beautiful! I love the diversity of God’s creation and the beauty in each area. We have friends living in northern Idaho for a year.

Lisa, the problem is with seeing it everyday……you sometimes forget how beautiful it is!

I love the beauty of those mountains! It is something we take for granted, my kids don’t know any different! Truly a blessing to be able to live among these mountains.

Lovely pictures! I feel very blessed to call this beautiful place home…but like you said when you live here every day it can sometimes seem ‘normal’. Sometimes you have to go away for a while to really appreciate it again:)

We lived in Montana next to Glacier National Park and only 45 miles from Canada, I so miss the mountains the wildlife and the great outdoors. We were ministers on the blackfeet reservation and loved every minute there (4 1/2 years) if only there had been some kind of employment we would have stayed. We have gone back nearly every year till the last couple because we now live on the east coast. The children have great memories (no running water, no electricity, outhouse only and a woodstove for cooking and heating). For you these are the days the children will remember. God bless
