Some of you are probably saying “Hello there, little blonde lady — it’s not Friday!!” Yep. You’re right. Friday is still two days away.
But . . .
I will be in Florida by then, Lord willing!
Lowell and I are hoping to fly to Florida with the baby for a long weekend and visit some family down there. So we will put the Shoe on hold while all the occupants gets divvied out to babysitters – bless those ladies hearts!
This is something Lowell and I have not done since our firstborn arrived over 13 years ago — leave for an entire 6 days with just each other and the “free flyer”. At least, if we have done a trip like this, we can’t remember when it was!
That’s the beauty of a bad memory . . .
it allows you to live the same circumstance over and over,
and totally enjoy it each and every single time.
So I’m giving you all of the Week Gone By news now.
The Shoe’s Newspaper Rack
I’ve been collecting articles over the last few weeks, so here is a bunch of reading for you!
The Most Overlooked Characteristic of Who You Want To Marry
Few people consider sickness and suffering when picking a mate. They consider how the other person might look in the morning or what bad habits they might have. They consider what offspring they could produce or what extended family they might bring to the reunion. Yet few people ever consider what is a vital question — can I suffer with this person?
Discernment or Criticism? by Roger Oakland
The problem seems to lie in the area of perspective. When a watchman warns about teachings that are popular, the watchman is unpopular. However, popularity is not what determines truth.
To My Porn-Watching Dad, From Your Daughter
Because of pornography, I was aware that mom was not the only woman you were looking at. I became acutely aware of your wandering eye when we were out and about. This taught me that all men have a wandering eye and can’t be trusted. I learned to distrust and even dislike men for the way they perceived women in this way.
Our Decision To Homeschool by Dr. Georgia Purdom (AIG)
However, in 5th grade I started to notice that she was bringing home very few papers. In addition, she had little to no homework. When I questioned her about it, she said that all the assignments were done on the tablets (she’s not permitted to bring the tablet home). I learned that I had to go to a website to see her grades, but when I did I discovered I was unable to see the actual assignment.
If You Will Not Eat the Apples That Grow On Trees . . . by Tim Challies
Whenever you put your hand to your brow and say, concerning anything revealed in the Scriptures, ‘I cannot comprehend it,’ lay your other hand upon your heart and say, ‘Nevertheless I believe it. . . ‘
Our culture often shames and blames men in ways that are counterproductive and unhelpful. In short, our culture socializes them out of developing skills in emotional intelligence and relationship processes, and then turns around and beats them up for “failing,” to navigate those skills when they are adults.
Young Men Are Giving Up On Marriage: “Women Aren’t Women Anymore”
“When I ask them why, the answer is always the same: women aren’t women anymore.” Feminism, which teaches women to think of men as the enemy, has made women “angry” and “defensive, though often unknowingly.”
If you didn’t see our call for miscarriage survivor stories, you can submit your story here. I forgot to mention that we will have a cutoff date on those entries. It’s filling up pretty quickly, so I might have to move the date. But right now let’s say try to have it in by March first. If you for sure want your story in Silent Grief, you might want to get it in earlier!
One more thing . . . I didn’t realize there is a word limit in the entry form for your story and some ladies are running out of room. So you can simply email me your story at kendra@livingintheshoe.com. Please remember that I need all the info, names, dates, etc. from the entry form – so be sure and include them in your email.
Thank you!
Quick Tip:
I don’t know how many of you have figured this out, but all links in posts are pink-colored. They are not underlined until you move your mouse over it, then an underline pops up. The links within the posts themselves will always be pink. So even if I don’t say “click here”, if it is pink – it is clickable and leads somewhere else. Oh, how we need a little pink in our lives. 😉
The Shoe Goes Mobile!
I know it’s been a long time coming, but we have finally remembered all you mobile viewers. It probably would have happened sooner, but I don’t have a smart phone and consequently put it off. That’s the nice way of saying I sort of like . . . forgot you guys. Sorry!
So we have installed a plugin and this is what you mobile phone users should see – something similar to this anyways:
There. You’re welcome!!
I’m loving the slower time of January. It is something I’ve been waiting for all summer long – a chance to catch my breath and get caught up on some projects around the house.
This month I’m supposed to be deep cleaning my living room . . . but since we are taking off for the land of sun, it will have to wait until I get home.
The kids are loving this snow! They have been busy digging tunnels in all the piles left from the clearing of our drive the other week.
So much help!
*there is a little sarcasm in that phrase*
Derek against Dad in chess!
We won’t make it public who won and who lost . . . only because my wonderful memory short-circuited and I can’t remember.
A little guy who loves his Kindle. Currently, the topic is sharks!
(pretend you didn’t see the holey sock there . . . )
Oh, I love these guys!
And now I will publish this quickly before one of them makes me take down that statement. 😉
Some days I wake up and wonder how this prissy naive blonde ended up with so much maleness in her life. I can only figure out that God knew that was what it would take to make me ready for Heaven!
Sis and I must hang together these days!
Don’t let our big talk fool ya – we absolutely bask in the fun those ornery guys bring to our lives.
Got any food around this joint?
We had to borrow a little pink for a 10th birthday party for Megan!
Now you all have a fun weekend – you know I’m sure going to!
