Well these Mennonite guys did it again. 🙂 They spoiled us women by cooking supper! And like the previous year, it was awesome! Some of us even talked our boys into helping.
Would you like to know what they served? In the words of another wife: “Meat, meat and more meat”! When I looked over the dishes as they came in the door, I tried to ask this question very respectfully: “Should I make a salad?” The men’s reply was “Salad?! Who needs salad?!” Obviously not them. However, Kyler did bring a great roasted cauliflower dish!

and their dishes:
Grilled Cheese Venison Bites by John Schlabach
Stuffed Pork and Chicken by Charles Schrock
Grilled Seasoned Elk Steaks by Lowell Graber
Alton Brown’s Who Loves Ya Baby-Back Ribs by Jacob Bushnell
Stuffed Pretzel Pizza Roll by Ryan Schlabach
Pan Roasted Cauliflower by Kyler Bushnell
Frozen Peanut Butter Cheesecake by Evan Schlabach
Frozen Hot Chocolate Cheesecake Pie by Derek, Terrel, Logan, and Wyatt Graber

Baby Back Ribs (click here) Jacob said he could not find jalapeno powder locally, so he doubled the cayenne pepper. He also used pineapple juice instead of the wine, and the baking time should be lengthened to 5-6 hours instead of the 2.5 recommended in the recipe.
Frozen Hot Chocolate Cheesecake (click here) The boys made this into a pie – because I told them to!

These first two pictures are before the party began. This is young Kyler Bushnell preparing his pan roasted cauliflower under his sister Rosie’s watchful eye! And I’m sure his mama’s as well.
My boys prepared their frozen cheesecake pie on Thursday evening. You can see it was quite the chaos in my little kitchen!
We had planned this evening over two weeks before . . . and now it finally began.
I’m guessing these guys were giving advice to the two in the kitchen . . .
You will see a couple new faces in these pictures since the last Mennonite Men Cooking episode! The two Schlabach boys got married. Please notice I calmly put a period on that previous sentence and I have not put in any ridiculous smiley faces – yet. But we have had so much fun watching these two guys, who are like brothers, go through the dating and marrying stage!
! 🙂
Little Rosie Bushnell. She melts my heart.
My plate. I don’t usually eat off of my carpet, but I needed to set down my plate so I could put two hands on my camera for a picture of this great food! Beginning on the top left (clockwise): Stuffed Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Grilled Elk Steak, Stuffed Pizza Roll, Grilled Venison Bites, and Pan Roasted Cauliflower.
It was absolutely delicious – and overflowing with healthy protein!!
Ah, yes. Some carbs. Frozen Peanut Butter Cheesecake. And my coffee to go with it!
Being the hostess and a slow eater, I was almost the last person to get any cheesecake. There was one big slice left, so I very greedily generously served myself a portion with 3 peanut butter cups on top! Some unbelieving people did not think I could finish it . . .
These two are so incredibly special! John and Emma are like a second set of parents to some of us.
Meet Ryan’s sweetheart, Teresa!!
And Evan’s sweetheart, Jessica!!
And I’m sure you’ve seen this ornery, lovable guy plenty of times on here . . .
Jacob and Renita Bushnell . . . parents of the adorable kids you see in these pictures – the ones that don’t technically belong to me, but whom my heart adopted!
One of the sweetest!
Umm. So remember those unbelieving people who didn’t think I could finish my cheesecake? They were right. My greedy appetite had overestimated my belly.
Thankfully, my teenager-with-a-hollow-leg (or hearty appetite) finished it off for me!
Charles Schrock is great at pulling games out of his past and talking us all into playing them! This one was called “What’s Yours Like?” Everyone is given a subject except for the guessing person. For the first round, we were told the subject was socks and we had to describe what ours was like until Lowell (the guessing person) had correctly guessed what the subject was. It was so much fun!!
Would you also notice the sweetie pie snuggled up next to John? She and John were part of a room-wide nerf gun war that had taken place while I was calmly trying to finish my cheesecake!
One more picture of this sweetpeach!
This picture of little Destin says it all. It was a good evening of fun, fellowship, and awesome man-food . . . followed by a night of an extra hour of sleep! Well, probably the people without any little kids got that extra hour anyway.
I won’t disclose whose socks are sticking up in the air . . . but this picture will tell you that these folks have hung around us enough times that they are no longer considered company.
They are now in the “family” category!
Family can have nerf fights in my living room, they can tell me when I’ve had enough cheesecake, they can make a mess in my kitchen, and they can put their stinky socks on my tables.
Now you knew I’d have to finish this post on a good note!
After all, we are really hoping there is a Season 3 to

The two times we’ve done it have been so much fun! It’s definitely a night when the men cater to their protein cravings. 😉

Oh this looks like so much fun–not to mention delicious! What a great crew and a fun night off for moms in the kitchen. The party game you mentioned sounds really fun, too.
