Hi Kendra! I’m really excited to have the opportunity to win! I like both the prizes but would probably appreciate the covering more as I’m trying to build a collection of various styles. 🙂 Speaking of…we have a headcovering group on Facebook, if you’re interested: Headcovering Christian Women. There’s just a few of us so far but we have fun discussions and it’s a great opportunity to minister to and encourage one another.

I’ve been looking at her stuff on Etsy and stumbled on your blog. I just checked out your blog on head covering. I had only met one person who covered her head, raised brethren here in Australia. It was black lace. I always wondered about the Corinthians passage and gave it plenty of study, but being the sole scripture in the New Testament about it, and with so much contextual/cultural debate I couldn’t come to a conclusion.
It is only since realising the relevance of Torah and the Old Testament to NT believers that I started to notice more of a theme. For starters the mitzvah (instruction) for the suspected adulterous woman to remove head covering before the high priest. Although it must be added that this is debated in Judaism too as it says “untwist” which could imply a twisted head covering or hair.
But in Isaiah it speaks of them going into slavery and the women’s head coverings being removed, along with other nakedness, uncovering the thigh etc, this revolutionised my modesty standards.
It all began when I started wearing tzit tzit (tassles to remind to keep YHWH’s laws). I felt conspicuous and realised I couldn’t rightly attach them to the bikinis I wore! Prior I had always thought as long as my husband was ok with what I wore it was modest enough. (I don’t wear the tzit tzit currently, as I believe they are articles for men to wear, as with tefillin etc. one of the commands says that men must not wear what pertains to women and women are not to wear the “articles” of men. Nevertheless I learned something very important. This conclusion is conjecture by the way, the command was given to Israel ” for all time” and believers are grafted into the commonwealth of Israel, we just must not make them show offy and big, according to Jesus).
So anyway I just wanted to share, I wore a cover full time for months and then I got very sick while pregnant with my third son and was just surviving, always at home etc. since having him five weeks ago I am wearing a tichel (twisted head scarf) again much if the time. Whenever I have intentional prayer I wear it, and much if the time in general. Another thing I have been feeling convicted on is set apart prayer. I used to think praying without ceasing meant whenever and wherever. Now I realising it was probably pointing to the biblical example of praying three set times a day: Morning, noon, and night. Also many, like Daniel, faced Jerusalem, and we are mandated to pray for Jerusalem as well according to scripture! This is where Christ will rule and reign and the Torah will flow out to the nations from (Isaiah 2, Micah 4).
To talk non stop to the Father is one thing, but to get on your knees, cover your head and pray facing Jerusalem, not on the loo or wherever you happen to be, is another thing!
I also love wearing a tichel as they can be very beautiful. This style is like a turban with colourful scarves. Isaiah 61 which talks about the coming judgement against the nations when they attempt to crush Zion in Jerusalem, it describes how they will have joy and salvation and God will give them a beautiful garland instead of ashes. This word “garland” describes the decorative turban of a bridegroom rather than a wreath of flowers (although garlands are worn by young women and children on the biblical feast of Shavuot – known in Greek as Pentecost).
I just want to share one precious time, when I went to the toilet at 41 weeks pregnant I decided to check my cervix and found a lot of blood and rapidly went into full labour. I straight away took stock, got a tichel from my cupboard and got on my knees to pray as I was planning my third home birth and a lot of blood can be a sign of the placenta separating early. My friend Lacey came over and she asked for one too and prayed with me. Then my friend Talia came to support me, and I’ve talked to her since, as she has also been encouraged to wear a head covering by my wearing one, and further by her recent trip to Israel where they are commonplace. She didn’t have one on as she had no time to get one in arranging her kids to be babysat. She later told me it was a big regret for her and she even put some of my kids clothes on her head while praying with my husband and another friend at one point! She wanted to ask him where I kept them. Little did she know they were right by her in that room’s wardrobe! We both feel the same, that during prayer is the minimum. That covering is an act of submission, a beautiful thing, modest and spiritual. It also does identify you as a person of some kind of conviction as you are out and about and makes you aware of your actions as a representative of Christ.
Anyway I’ve talked enough! Time to go snuggle my newborn! I really want a beautiful modest, white linen dress for the Fall feasts coming up – prophetic of the second coming! Just like the spring feasts (passover, Pentecost etc) were of the first coming. It is traditional to wear white at this time – as the trumpet sounds and on the day if atonement, leading up to the feast of tabernacles, symbolic of the millennial reign – Zechariah 12-14.

That is such an incredibly beautiful testimony!! I thank you for taking the time to share it. It has given me much food for thought! May God richly bless you and come again. 🙂 Enjoy that sweet, sweet baby!
