Wednesday Morning
As we got ready to leave Kenny’s place and head over to Dad’s Wednesday morning, we had a friend that couldn’t let us leave. I’ve never seen a pet raccoon this tame! Lowell would place him down, then run as fast as he could to the car, but before he could get the door shut, the raccoon was in the car – ready to go somewhere.
Finally, we got the bright idea to drive very slowly down the lane, hold Sam-I-Am out the window and gently drop him on the grass . . . then floor it so that he couldn’t follow.
It worked and Sam-I-Am was safe!
The project for Wednesday morning was to cut down a few of Dad’s trees and trim some others. However, they started before we got there and so I didn’t get a picture of anyone yelling “Timber!!”
This little girlie was the newest addition to the Graber family! Such a sweetheart.
Probably some of you women are interested in how we fed 30 people for five days. Let me tell you that Jeanie was the mastermind behind this whole shindig and she had an excellent idea!
First off, we ate in the garage. Cleanup was a snap and there was room for everyone at tables.
Jeanie placed two ladies in charge of the meals for a certain day. On the other days, they got to help with dishes, but were not responsible for planning the menu and making the food.
We only planned two meals a day – a brunch and an early supper.
This worked great! Snacks were ate in-between, but that was pretty much expected and folks tended to fend for themselves at snacktime.
All the little boys wanted to sit by Uncle Randall! I’m guessing he either felt very loved by the time we all left . . . or slightly clausterphobic.
Quote From the Road:
After a bathroom break somewhere in Montana, we heard a running commentary coming from Logan in the back seat (while trying to buckle his seatbelt).
With increasing fervor, the announcer proclaimed:
“He digs his way to the buckle . . . and then SNAPS!”
Wednesday Afternoon
Wednesday afternoon the men and boys all went tubing down the creek. They had a ball of fun as the little guys spent most of their time looking for clam shells. Daddy was very logical and allowed each boy only one shell to take home to Idaho . . . he could see the back end of the Toyota getting filled with shells to haul 2,000 miles home.
More sweet cousins!
Grandma kept garden tea popsicles in her freezer nonstop! All the babies and children loved these and it is one of the things they remember specifically about Grandma’s house.
One of those moments where you resort to the motto: Don’t ask . . . don’t tell.
One of the brothers had a birthday while we were there. So being a house full of many males, they did the male thing and tackled him to the ground and proceeded to give him his 35 spankings. Poor guy.
Benson was either very brave to let his daddy do this . . . or really trusted him. Probably both!
And on our last evening at Dad Graber’s, it was finally cool enough to have a campfire.
I enjoyed being with everyone so much – our whole family did. Kenny and Genny (in the pic) have the children who are closest to our children’s ages and we stayed at their place. So our kids all hung out together day and night and had a ball!
(Nice pic, Kris!)
Then after campfire it was time to say our good-byes and head over to Dad Wray’s for a couple days before going home. Goodbyes are never easy, but they are a necessary part of life!

I enjoyed your family trip! 🙂 I’m not sure if I’ve commented before but I subscribed to your blog a few months ago. Your SIL Esther is my first cousin. Didn’t realize until seeing these pictures that you’re married to the same Graber family as her.
