I’m not talking about smiling to your husband or your friends about your child. Not smiling into another person’s face over the heads of your children.
Not laughing about your child’s antics with another adult. These all have their place, but that is not smiling at your child.
A true smile is where I turn my head to look directly into the face of my child. Eye contact is made and held. A grin spreads across my face as my eyes sparkle into theirs.
So many messages can be passed in one simple smile. One smile that takes less than a second.
I enjoy you as a person — not just my child!
You are not simply the “fruit of my womb”. You are infinitely special and unique.
A shared smile connects you to me on the spirit-level.
I care about you and what makes you tick.
You make me proud.
I love being your mom!
God placed an immeasurable value on your soul, and I do too.
