A steaming mug of coffee . . .
fuzzy blanket . . .
and a good book.
With all our sicknesses this winter, we’ve had time to do some reading. On days when it’s snowing outside, the laundry is all done, and supper is planned, I love to curl up with a good book.
Here are a few of the books I’ve recently read or am still in the process of reading:
by Bernie Tocholke
True story of a man who struggles against the odds to escape a cult . . . but must leave his wife and children behind. Heart-wrenching! You won’t be able to put it down!
by Roger Oakland
If you have any questions regarding the Emerging Church, this is the book to get. It covers most of the major issues and beliefs in the Emerging Church. Exceptional in showing how this church is leading evangelical Christianity into a centuries-old mystical approach.
by Barbara Royer
A First-Class Fighting Man is a book of diary entries and letters between a Christian conscientious objector in World War I and his wife. It reveals the hardships, yet the unwavering faith of Verne Kessler and his wife, Estella.
by Ray Yungen
Excellent read on contemplative (or sometimes called “centering”) prayer! Is it biblical, where is it headed, and who is an advocate of it – these questions and more are answered in this book.
by Susan Ray Schmidt
A woman trapped in polygamy tries to find a way of escape – along with her children.
Lighter Reads
After heavy, thought-provoking books like the ones listed above, a lighter read is needed!
For my lighter reading, I like to peruse through books of Jane Austen quality. Old-fashioned, Victorian-era volumes intrigue me with their way of life, intellectual discourse, and of course, the teas and carriages.
These books I haven’t all read this winter, but are some of my favorites that I like to reread every now and then.
by Elizabeth Gaskell
I lost this book and have searched high and low to find it! If it doesn’t show back up within a couple years, I will have to get another.

Kid Reads
Our children love to read as well! We take them to the library about every 2-3 weeks to exchange our huge stack of books for another huge stack of books.
The boys love the sports series by Jake Maddox and have read all the volumes our library currently has on the shelf.
The younger ones enjoy this series with me – Minnie and Moo by Denys Cazet!
If there is a series of books I’ve found to equal Amelia Bedelia, it would be these! However, they would probably attract a slightly younger audience than Amelia Bedelia.
Still . . . they are two fun, humongous, lovable cows that play tricks on their farmer and let their wild imaginations run away from them!
There is a whole series of these, but here are two:
Book Wanted!
There is a book my mother read to us little girls years ago and I wish so badly I had it today! I don’t believe it is any longer in print, so any copy I find will be used.
If you have one and want to get rid of it, let me know! I’d be willing to pay you for it. Otherwise, I’ll have to get a used one on Amazon.

This would be a good, read-aloud book for some of our family evenings we have left this winter!
