We have shared our homemade chocolate milk mix in the past here at Living in the Shoe. But it was a recipe that only made enough mix for 3/4 of a gallon at a time. {You can view that recipe here.}
But since the kids love this homemade chocolate milk, I decided to expand the recipe and make this mix in bulk.
Of course, my blonde brain needed a handy calculator to figure it out — but here it is! This mix is enough to fit in my Tupperware container that most folks would use for dry cereal. I can’t remember how big the container is, but you can see from the picture what it looks like.
This recipe still requires that you put HOT water in the bottom of your pitcher before adding the mix. This is the key to getting all the cocoa and sugar dissolved so you have lump-free, creamy chocolate milk!
For moms like me, who have a passel of kids that can mop up a gallon of milk within hours
. . . this is the recipe for you. Enjoy!!
- 6 cups sugar
- 3 cups cocoa
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- Mix ingredients together. Store in airtight container.
- To make chocolate milk, pour slight amount of HOT water in the bottom of your gallon pitcher.
- Add 1 1/4 cups chocolate milk mix and stir until there are no lumps.
- Add enough milk to make a full gallon.
- Stir well and enjoy!
