One of our baby steps to healthier eating is making our own kefir. Lowell was the one who decided to do this, and who has kept it going and continues to grace our table with his creations.
He has kept at it, trying this and that, and perfecting his ingredients until he has it perfect!
I wanted to share his recipe with you since it is just that good!
If you are wondering what kefir is, how to make it, or where to buy your grains – the website Cultures For Health is a good place to start.
Some people can drink kefir straight – and Lowell probably could – but the rest of us have more sensitive tastebuds! This recipe I will share with you is one that we can all drink, even down to Baby Dallas. It is more like a smoothie and is delicious! Our favorite flavors include strawberry and blueberry/peach.
*Note = Lowell adds in powdered vitamin C simply as a way to get more vitamin C into our diet, especially in the wintertime. You can’t even tell it’s in there since the twang of the kefir masks the vitamin C flavor.
Lowell’s Homemade Kefir
6 cups kefir
1/3 cup sugar or sweetener
2-3 cups frozen fruit
2 T. vanilla
2 tsp. vitamin C powder (optional)
Blend until smooth and enjoy!
