Summer is clearly on its way out here in Idaho! And this little family plans to fully enjoy every moment. In doing so, we have installed a plugin to this little blog that automatically publishes the posts to facebook and twitter (although it’s still in the beta phase). This is my attempt at minimizing and optimizing my time on there. All the pictures, article links, and little family tidbits will now be going on the blog, instead of facebook. So our Facebook Fridays will now be The Week Gone By.
I feel good with this decision. Social media can be overwhelming and time-consuming if I let it. I’d learned how to scan read really, really fast – picking out the things I wanted to read later. But most of the ministries or blogs containing articles which were Biblically sound and worth my time reading, have now been added to my email subscription list. So instead of finding them on facebook, I am able to get them directly in my email. Clever, huh? 🙂 Saves me time, too.
Sometime I will post a list of all the ministries I follow so that you, too, can get them in your inbox. For now, here is an excerpt from an article from Berean Call that I found not only interesting, but challenging in the area of how to be discerning. If you’re not familiar with Berean Call, Dave Hunt was the founder of it many years ago. I can remember my father having Dave Hunt’s books on his bookshelf. Dave Hunt has since passed away, but the ministry is still going.
Is “Heaven Is for Real” for Real?: An Exercise in Discernment
There have been quite a number of books written by or about people who claim to have personally visited Heaven.
Some of these authors profess to be Christians while others do not. The descriptions of their experiences vary regarding such things as entering into a dazzling white light at the end of a dark tunnel and being greeted by deceased loved ones, or being in the presence of God and seeing the shed feathers of angels dotting the grand floor of His throne room. Many of their stories contain information that would seem to be beyond their ability to know at the time–or at all.
Although these individuals supply much information, the content raises many questions. Obviously, everything they say can’t be true because some of the content in one book contradicts what’s written in others. How do we know who is giving us an accurate and truthful account?
A biblical Christian might say that he would compare what they say with what is presented in the Scriptures about Heaven. If it rings true to the Word of God, then it must be true. Well, yes and no. Yes, it must be true to Scripture. What is presented certainly cannot be at odds with what the Bible teaches about Heaven; nevertheless, just because it conforms to Scripture doesn’t prove that the person’s declaration or experience of being in Heaven actually took place. {continue reading article here at Berean Call}

With the movie “Heaven is For Real” coming out soon, there have been an onslaught of reviews and cautions. Here is another article concerning this at Answers in Genesis written by John MacArthur. Lowell, especially, enjoyed reading this one and wanted me to share it!

I just found this idea on Pinterest and thought it was so neat! Especially since I plan to plant sunflowers around here.
You plant them in a circle or square to make a fort/playhouse for your kids. My kids would LOVE it!!
Has anyone done this? The only thing I can think of that might deter me is that I’ve read it draws bees later in the summer. If you’ve had experience with this, I’d love to hear how it worked for you and your kids.

We’ve been enjoying the birds here at the new place! I love hearing their cheerful twittering every morning. The kids have had so much fun identifying them. Someone will describe what they saw to Derek and you’ll see him race upstairs for his bird book.
As you can see from the next picture, they are also enjoying playing target practice with them. They have been given permission to shoot starlings and sparrows (not songbirds like in the pic). So far, the birds have had the upper-hand!
This picture was taken at about 6:10 in the morning this week. I waddled out to my coffeepot and saw this out the window. They’ve also been looking for birds at night by taping a flashlight to their gun and going out into the barn. However, they came in rather fast after hearing a hissing sound! I had to smile.

And since it is reaching towards 80 degrees here today, and yesterday . . . we are declaring a state of emergency at the Shoe! I have no flip flops to my name and almost couldn’t take being out in my garden wearing tennis shoes yesterday. Since the kids have no school today, we are off to get us some summer footwear. All seven of us! Oh yay.
I may or may not have all my faculties functioning when we get back.
