I know it’s way past time for another email from way out west here. And since the kiddos are eating breakfast and Lowell is at his accountability meeting, I have a few minutes all to myself. Well, let me take that back. A “smell” just tried to dive under the computer desk. We have this thing with smells at our house lately. One morning I was making coffee when Logan came into the kitchen over to the corner where I keep the coffee maker, etc. He sniffs and says, “I smell coffee!” He can smell alright – he can even smell himself. When I think he might be messed, I ask, “Who stinks?” He pipes right up with, “That’s me!” A very honest little man. The other day I wanted to show Jana Mellinger what he says when I ask who stinks. (The Mellingers are our children’s big brothers and sisters!) So I ask him “Who stinks?” You could see him almost say his usual “that’s me” but realized he wasn’t stinky and so he promptly said, “Daddy stinks!” Poor dad, he gets the blame for everything.
Speaking of Daddy, he is scheduled to go into surgery exactly one week from today. He has to be at the hospital in Spokane at 5:30 Monday morning, Dec. 1. Surgery will begin at 7:30 am. And the doctor thinks this could actually be a 2-3 day stay. I guess they are going to have to make sure he’s okay before sending him home. When we had asked for his hardware to be removed, we didn’t think it would be this big of a deal. And it wouldn’t have been. In fact, it was only going to be an outpatient surgery because they were only going to remove the plates and screws from his elbow. But then the doctor saw something on the xray of his hip a month ago and didn’t like it so he ordered a ct scan. The ct scan showed there is extra bone growing around his hip fractures from May. Too much bone and the doctor is worried it could be impinging the sciatic nerve – again. So in order for that nerve to heal to its full potential, we need that bone out of there. And while the doctor has him opened up to do that, he will also remove the hardware in his hip. Lowell is not looking forward to getting all sliced open again. He has horrible memories of the 40 + staples on his hip and elbow combined! Everybody keeps telling him it’s not going to hurt nearly as bad this time because he does not have all the bone fractures to heal from and the trauma. So we have gotten babysitters for our munchkins – again – and we will just pretend we are going away for 3 days as a late anniversary celebration! Except it’s going to take an awful lot of imagination to get that accomplished while sitting in a hospital bed, staring at a bedpan.
Now that I’ve got you all with such cheery pictures running through your mind I will give you the good news for the day. At least the kids and I think it’s good. We are decorating for Christmas today!! That is a big deal around here – in fact, we’ve had the days counted as to when we could put up Christmas decorations and wrap the presents. We had planned on Friday, but since we were invited out to William and Sara Byler’s for Thanksgiving, we will be putting up our decorations today! Only problem is, do we do school before or after the decorations? I had told the children we could put them up first, but now I’m rethinking that one. They might get school done a little faster if they have that to look forward to.
So now it’s off to change that stinky diaper that was hanging out under my desk, do school, and start celebrating the birth of our King!
We love you all and hope you can forgive this lady for not getting her emails out as often as she used to!
