Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.
Corrie ten Boom
Ten days ago a good friend of ours was shot and killed. He was a father of four beautiful children and, with being a chiropractor, had been a huge part in helping Lowell get through his post-accident pain.
This week the world has gone crazy. Literally.
When it feels like control is slipping from our fingers, where do we turn to? We all like to think we can control our lives here on earth, stocking up our piles of food and necessities to see us through hard times. People desperately trying to protect themselves against an unseen enemy. But what if that isn’t enough?
For our friend, all it took was one shot and he was gone.
We are not promised protection from every earthly disease or hardship. In fact, we are not promised protection from death. This has made me stop and remember what is truly important to me. What am I living for? Which Kingdom do I really belong to anyway?
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
Psalm 91:1,2
When all the world is falling apart with panic and fear, how are we any different? When our community is rocked by an untimely death and the fear that comes with it, how do we respond? Do we cower in the same fear or do we shine as lights, knowing we dwell in the secret place of the most High God?
No one should be made sad by death. In living, there is labor and peril. In dying, there is peace and the certainty of the resurrection . . .
Cyprian, 250 AD
God is the God of hope. And hope looks even more beautiful to a world that is dying. To a people that are like a ship being thrown around with every wave of panic that comes through.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.
I Peter 3:15
As a believer, I am headed on a different path to a different place. A place called Heaven – where there is no more panic, no more pain, no more shots in the night. No death.
Instead we will see the face of our sweet Jesus. What an awesome hope that lies within us!

Great song! We do serve a might God who is on the Throne and in control of everything. We don’t have to fear or panic. He calls us to bring hope to those around us. Thank you for this encouraging post.

Thank you reminding us what we have to look forward to. I think we all need to remember that God is in control, not us.

Yes, we do!
