Confusion and fear. Just two of the words to describe our America at this moment in time.
Our church ladies have been encouraging each other to pray for our country. And so while I’ve been praying . . . I’ve also been pondering this question. “Exactly how should I pray?”
Lowell and I were discussing it this morning. As Christians of a heavenly kingdom, what should be our prayer for this earthly kingdom we live in? New Testament Christians prayed for their rulers . . . even as they were killing them.
Our hearts hurt at the pain in this country. At the people who are looking for a savior . . . while missing the Savior Himself. And so we pray, like so many Christians are doing across this nation – and even the world as it looks on.
I pray God will use this time to purify His church. He knows which ones are His.
So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
Matthew 13:27-30
I pray for the souls of these people – both large and great, small and humble. The angst, the abuse, the lies, the deceit, the fear . . . all these things that hold them in an icy grip. Indeed, a heart without hope is a heart of despair. And so many have placed their trust in another human to “save” them from hard times, from disease, from financial difficulties.
Doesn’t it sound familiar to when Jesus Christ was born over 2,000 years ago? People were looking for a Messiah who would free them from oppression and give them what they longed for. And so many missed Him because they looked for the wrong savior.
I pray that God will use this time we live in to draw all eyes towards Him. To bring America to her knees in repentance for all the atrocities she has committed. To call men to look honestly in their hearts and lives to see where they stand with God. In the end, we won’t stand before God as families, as races, as cultures, as nations. We will answer for one person and one alone. Ourselves.
What will that answer be?
Honestly, as I write this, my heart is convicted. I need to pray more. I need to open my mouth and speak of the hope that I have. For what good is a light if it cowers under its bushel?
We have hope. Let’s share it with the world. Beginning right on our doorstep . . . then one step more. We might be just moms and wives and grandmas, but let’s see where all He takes us when we “let our little light shine”.
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

I agree with you Kendra. Our country is in a sorry state and I’m just shocked at the division I’ve seen on blogs, our local Next Door community and just everywhere. I love the verses i you quoted in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9. Such encouraging verses. Have a wonderful day!
