The end of summer can be beautiful in its own way. Lowell has tried to convince me over the years that fall is the best season . . . but I am afraid we will always hold our own views on that one. However, I am coming to view the beauties of fall in a new light!
I used to have this feeling that all my summer fun ends the day the children go back to school. But when you have spent the last two months in smoke without seeing much of your mountains, it makes you realize that fall truly is beautiful! Once it rained, the smoke began to clear out of here and we are having the most beautiful weather in weeks.
And our mountains are back once again.
We hiked up to Pyramid Lake and found sweet huckleberries along the trail. This guy here was the one we threatened to prod with a stick because he couldn’t keep out of the bushes and on the trail! He was thoroughly enjoying himself.
Huckleberries are delicious, but oh so tiny!
When we hike, I usually bring up the rear. But that is changing. Lowell decided that the front and back of the pack needed to carry bear spray, so that shoved me up one on the chain.
Which reminds me . . . did we tell you what we found on Derek’s trail camera back in our woods behind our house? A grizzly.
Just let that soak in for a bit and then you may panic . . .
Sweet peaches.
We arrived at Pyramid Lake and it was beautiful!
Little Man and I were rather cold. So we shared Dad’s big hunting jacket and sat in the sun. Pardon the funny expression . . . I had a mouthful of picnic!
Found a young “old” lady on the trail!
There is something so calming about a pristine mountain lake. And so quiet.
Someone was snoozing in the warm sunshine.
Sticks and boys.
Some of them were trying out packs before they went hunting.
I often ask myself ridiculous questions such as “If I could freeze a time in my life, which would it be?” Because seriously, who of us get to do that? Besides, I’m a woman and it would take me too long to decide which one. So I am learning to enjoy today for what today is!
And today is full of love and sweet times.
