Someone said that so far 2020 has been like getting ready to cross the road, looking both ways . . . and then getting hit by an airplane.
It’s been a doozy of a year, but we are learning to make the best of our circumstances.
So we decided to hop on that airplane and go have some fun in Indiana! Humid, hot Indiana. Where sweet memories were made.
This was the first airplane ride we have taken with the whole family. So to say it was exciting is really understating it! Usually we hop in the Toyota and drive 36 hours . . . but this time we skipped all that driving and looked down at the scenery from the sky above.
At the layover, the children found those walking escalators and had a ball of fun!
Since both of our immediate families live in the same area, it’s a pretty intense week. You’d be surprised how much gets packed into 8 days!
First we were with Lowell’s side, the Grabers. And they took us down part of the Wabash River on tubes, kayaks, and canoes. It was a smoking hot day, so the water was wonderful. We tubed for about 4 hours, even the mamas with little ones rode in canoes. I was so proud of them! I was busy trying to keep Lowell from tipping me over.
We came away sunburned but happy!
On Sunday we did family pictures after church. So if anyone looks like they want to take bite out of their neighbor, that might be why. What a fun family!! They have been my family for over 2 decades now and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
We were taken to David and Marilyn Schlabach’s big HUGE swing! Some went off of it. Some just watched them take their lives in their hands. It is similar to our boys camp swing here in Idaho, although theirs is taller yet. Wyatt went off the swing for the first time and he was pretty proud of himself.
This was awesome. Hands down awesome.
For one thing, it was probably the hottest, most humid day while we were there. The men had been working on Mom’s roof and doing odd jobs so everyone was ready for a water fight. A GIANT water fight!
This was our first family reunion without Dad. But we missed him, greatly. It wasn’t the same without him sitting in his chair, watching the little ones at his feet. He left a big hole . . . but he also left an awesome legacy of faith and family. Family who love him and look forward to meeting him again.
On Sunday we went to the graveyard to visit. As we gathered around, we sang the song “I Will Rise”, which we had sung as a family at the graveside service for Dad.
I love this song. It says this “Jesus has overcome and the grave is overwhelmed”. That is our eternal hope!
21 years. This picture sums it up. Perfectly.
We celebrated our 21st anniversary while in Indiana and words can’t describe what those years have been like. But this picture is worth a thousand of them.
I wouldn’t trade those years . . . and I would make the choice I made 21 years ago. He keeps me laughing, he keeps me feeling young. He is my best friend and I love him to pieces.
Those years haven’t been a cake walk. But a good marriage is made of mountains and valleys . . . and we choose to focus on the view from the mountaintops.
Just imagine what we’ll be like in 21 more years . . .
